RE: V-10 Advice

I say it's a good price for a great truck. Go for it.

RE: F150 o7

A TUNED 4.6L will out perform a STOCK 5.4L anyday and deliver better mileage to boot. Well it's a good chuckle. It's fine to share this with your friends if you like but posting this on RV.net might make you lose some credibility. "Tuned" might mean lots of things but the procedure you describe don't add much to the stock motor. Here's a better line for you: A TUNED 4.6L will out perform a STOCK 4.6L anyday and deliver better mileage to boot. So a tuned GM 4.8L can outperform the 5.3L? A tuned Mopar 4.7L can outperform the 5.7L? There's a "tuned" Ford Ranger on Youtube that blows away a Dodge SRT-10 truck.

RE: Ford F-250 V10

You would be surprised on how well the 3V V10 does in fuel consumption. Around 15 hway, 11 towing. It did better than the previous generations of the GM 6L and equal to the non MDS Hemi on hway. Not as thirsty as the 8.1L Vortec.

RE: F150 o7

The 4.6L is far from being the 5.4L. The intake/exhaust/programmer mods does not compare to a gearing change... and no it's not "exotic" or "weird". FYI, true duals are not recommended for towing. :R

RE: Ford F-250 V10

SmudgeDog, those SuperDuty V10s are a rare find. You usually have to order them. Don't be afraid you'll be glad to have it under the hood. You'll be the envy of the Camp site. ;) Enjoy your new Ford!

You said the magic word: "Mountains" - Diesel.

RE: Ford 150 vs GMC Sierra

Penguin Rob, Best advice would be for you to spend a day in both. You'll find pros and cons on both, evaluate them including price etc. Make sure you get minimum 3.73 axle. BTW, if you want more info and be entertained by Host Rick Titus, then click here to view a comparison. PS. My vote: Ford ;)

RE: Recommend me a new truck/TV

I think an F350 SRW Crewcab with the Triton V10 fits the bill. Review this and you'll understand why the Ford saved your familly.

RE: what typ of tow vehicle do you need to tow 9000lbs

3/4 ton would be my vote. Ford of course.

RE: Towing with 2500 HD Chevy 6L 4:10 rear end

GVWR is total weight allowed on/in the truck including all cargo / passengers and payload in the box (fifth wheel pin weight). GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) Front 4800lbs - Rear 6084 pounds. Total weight allowed on your axle. Then you have GCVWR, total weight that includes both your TT and your TV.

RE: Nissan dealer advertising new Versa with each new Titan?

Yes I saw it here as well. Also get a Versa with a Pathfinder. 6 years back, Chevy was giving you a Cavalier with every Corvette. (winter car).

OUCH ! Towed 11K lbs once with my '99. It was a very short trip. If you pulled the trigger, you'll learn the hard way. Good luck.

RE: '08 F-150 Test Drive (And Tow!)

I think you can't go wrong with this red hot F150. In case you haven't seen it, they have a nice detailed video and comparo. Here is the link: Ford Trucks Depending on when your lease is up, 2009s are equipped with a 6spd tranny. Cheers.

RE: 08 F-150 SuperCrew - 4.6 or 5.4?

I would choose the 5.4L V8, and do some research on the tow package options. Our 2003 came with a tow package, but the axle ratio and tire size combination is for highway mileage. Axle ratio and tire size go hand-in-hand. Our 2003 F150 tire size is 235/70R16, and the axle ratio is 3.31; not the best choice for towing! If I had it to do over again, I would opt for more tow capacity. -Don Don, In the SuperCrew model, 2001-2002 came with 3.55s and the 2003 model with 3.73s. Bizarre that they would put 3.31s with a tow package.
